If “sea cows” were farmed like other cows then people could eat them, they wouldn’t be endangered, and the many “manatee festivals” in our state could then provide culinary delights from their namesakes, as does the strawberry festival, tomato festival, rib festivals, seafood festivals, et cetera. A libertarian approach will save the manatee by bringing it closer to everyone’s heart (deep inside everyone’s stomach). It's a win-win idea for manatee and for people who love them (to eat).
Capitalists can farm manatee by fencing them or by the more modern method using “homing” tags (transponders) to own and track manatee as private property.
Manatee were used in history for meat, bone, hides and fat. Manatee were relied upon among ancient Indians and manatee hides were made into leather shoes, cords and shields, and the ivory-like bones were thought to have medicinal value. Florida Indians hunted manatee to supplement to their diet and may have sold excess meat to the Spanish.
In the seventeenth century, shiploads of dried manatee meat were shipped from the Guianas to feed sugar plantation laborers in the Caribbean. Pioneers arriving in the nineteenth century shot manatee for meat, oil and hides, and poaching was common in parts of Florida during the Depression and World War II. Cowpens Key in the Florida Keys is thought to be so named because manatee were once penned in a small cove there as a food supply [from The West Indian Manatee in Florida, Copyright 1989, Florida Power & Lights Company].
Despite the foregoing, actual farming of manatee has either not been tried, or has been outlawed. Environmentalists are endangering manatee with misguided, anti-capitalistic statism.
Socialism is killing manatee. The lack of property rights in sea cows and in so much of Florida’s waterways makes it difficult, if not impossible, to farm manatee.
Private property rights and farming keep chicken, cattle and many popular forms of restaurant fish off endangered species lists. Tuna is the “chicken of the sea” and the manatee is the “cow of the sea” and their cow-like qualities make manatee ideal for farming.
Farming will produce manatee meat of greater quality and flavor, and insure that manatee never face extinction.
Everyone should look forward to the day when there will be real manatee festivals, when manatee are included in all the seafood festivals, and when manatee will be as popular and abundant as other farmed seafood, meats, fruits and vegetables.
As the bumper sticker says “I love manatee. They taste just like chicken.”

Or another bumper sticker: "Save the sea grass. Eat more manatee."

The typical commentary about manatee on television, radio or print is a constant whine, "if only there were more regulations," "if only there were more law enforcement officers." It is such a gestapo drone it is a comedy, made funnier by the complete blindness to the only meaningful alternative: private property rights and free market economics.

painting. It appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post
published May 12, 1917. A civil war veteran merely doffs his hat in
the painting, while a boy scout gives the scout's modified military
salute. Rockwell did not show out stretched arms in the early American
nazi salute.

Military personnel and boy scouts and girl scouts continue to salute
the flag in the initial manner used during America's Nazi salute: the
military salute. The difference is that they no longer stretch the
military salute out toward the flag.

You might also wish to recall that Mao started out with guidance and support from Stalin, and that Stalin and Hitler invaded Poland together as allies in a pact to divide up Europe (and in an apparent contest to see who could kill the most people, which Stalin won hands down, err bodies down). Actually, Stalin, Lenin and Soviet Socialism also had a head-start on Hitler.

In "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" a dead collector with a cart shouts "bring out your dead" and then takes and kills someone who is not yet dead.

The Monty Python scene is comedy. But under Stalin and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics it actually happened. For example in the Ukraine where Soviet Socialists stole everyone's food and abandoned them to starve to death by the thousands each day, adding up to millions murdered. Socialism's dead collectors would take people who were not yet dead (it saved a second trip the next day).

The Monty Python scene is set in medieval times during the plague (an actual disease). The Soviet Socialist scene in the Ukraine was set in modern times and did not involve any actual disease at all.

People had very strange beliefs in the middle ages concerning religion, sciences, spirits, disease, et cetera. The people in the middle ages seem almost insane compared to people today (and "modern knowledge"), or even when compared to what people knew during the time of Soviet Socialism.

       It might look like adolescent goofiness, but when Mariner High School students perform a Nazi salute, pound their chests or improvise words during the Pledge of Allegiance, it's actually a protest, they say.
      A daily pledge to the flag and to the republic for which it stands roboticizes them and is an affront to their intellectual independence, the students say.
       "It's like a brainwashing technique," said student Sheila King. "You can't pound someone into patriotism."
       King is no ordinary malcontent. She's the Mariner student-body president and swim-team captain. She takes Advanced Placement classes and gets very good grades.
       But sometimes she stays in her seat during the pledge, refusing to participate, along with several other students in her class.
       King has become the driving force behind an effort at her Mukilteo school to stop saying the pledge daily, as a little-known state law mandates.        In the meantime at Mariner High School, students who do make a scene - by making a straight-arm salute or saluting the chalkboard, or

       "It's funny," she said.
       Some teachers continue with their work as the pledge is recited, letting students stand and follow along or not as they desire.

Biggest BULLY in school: Government & its PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

How can government (and government schools) oppose bullying when it is the biggest bully of all? Every morning begins with the government's top lesson in bullying: the Pledge of Allegiance. Children are bullied into the robotic chanting and then they are taught to bully anyone who does not submit and join in.

Bullying and name-calling provoked by the Pledge of Allegiance has activated the "Tripp Civil Rights Team" at Tripp Middle School in Turner Maine. The team uses a book called The Misfits. It is about a couple of kids that don't really fit in with other kids. They often get bullied, and they even keep a list of names they're called. In the second chapter Addle refuses to say the Pledge Of Allegiance. She thinks saying the pledge is offensive, because it says "justice for all" and she doesn't believe that all people have "justice for all." The Tripp Civil Rights Team is hoping that this book will help stop the bullies and name calling at their school.

No mention is made of the actual extreme violence and lynchings. Edward Bellamy's choice of "The New Nation" as the name for his magazine is interesting in that another magazine with a similar name but with a different policitcal perspective had existed for a long time before Bellamy's magazine, and when Bellamy's new publication was conducted by Henry Willard Austin, the other older magazine (The Nation) was owned by Henry Villard. During the life of Bellamy's magazine, the older Nation magazine expressed an anti-socialist point of view. Was the "New Nation" name selected by Bellamy meant to contrast his magazine's pro-socialist point of view? The Nation magazine began in July 1865 in Manhattan. The publisher was Joseph H. Richards, and the editor was E.L. Godkin, a classical liberal critic of nationalism, imperialism, and socialism. The magazine stayed at "Newspaper Row" in Manhattan for 90 years. Wendell Phillips Garrison, son of William Lloyd Garrison, was literary editor of the periodical from 1865 to 1906.

In 1881, newspaperman-turned-railroad-baron Henry Villard acquired The Nation and converted it into a weekly literary supplement for his daily newspaper the New York Evening Post.

In 1918, the editor of the magazine became Henry Villard's son, Oswald Garrison Villard, and he sold the Evening Post. He remade The Nation into a current affairs publication and gave it a socialist orientation. Villard's takeover prompted the FBI to monitor the magazine for roughly 50 years. The FBI had a file on Villard since 1915. Almost every editor of The Nation from Villard's time to the 1970s was looked at for "subversive" activities and ties. When Albert Jay Nock, not long later, published a column criticizing Samuel Gompers and trade unions for being complicit in the war machine of the First World War, The Nation was briefly suspended from the U.S. mail.

Under Henry Villard, the offices of The Nation were moved to the Evening Post's headquarters on Broadway. The New York Evening Post would later morph into a tabloid: the New York Post. It was a socialist-leaning afternoon tabloid under owner Dorothy Schiff from 1939 to 1976.

Any Constitutional amendment against flag desecration is bad. State laws already dictate a pledge of allegiance to the flag daily in many schools. I was the first one to point out the error to both Rep. Paul and the website bearing the name Lew Rockwell, which repeated Rep. Paul’s error. A google search or google news search for "the atheist Bellamy" shows my corrections of Rep. Paul’s errors.

Please communicate to Rep. Paul and to Lew Rockwell my standing challenge to publicly debate their errors, and their knowledge of the history of the pledge, and their views about the pledge today. After Mr. Rockwell was alerted to the errors, he wrote that he would not print these corrections, he did not deny them, and he persisted in posting the errors on his website.

I have communicated with Rep. Paul and asked him to correct the errors, however I have received no response so far, and the errors are still at Rep. Paul's official website.

So far, neither party has had the guts to take up my challenge and they both seem headed for defeat. Hearing nothing within a week, I will announce my victory (by default).

I have personally met Rep. Paul and I admire him. He is the most libertarian member of Congress. I supported him and voted for him when he was the presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party. I hope that Rep. Paul will speak again in Congress and tell the true history of the Pledge and display photographs of the original pledge for all Congressmen and for all Americans to see. http://rexcurry.net/pledge2.html
